Barbara "Bobbie" Marcinko Obituary

Barbara Genevieve Marcinko, affectionately known as Bobbie, a long-time resident of Laurel, MD, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2024, in Ellicott City, Maryland. Born on September 14, 1938, in Greenwich, Connecticut to Martha Rutledge and Jasper Dawson of Cheverly, Maryland, now deceased.

Bobbie's formative years were spent in Cheverly, MD, where she blossomed into a young woman of exceptional character and enthusiasm. After graduating from Bladensburg High School in 1956, her academic journey led her to the University of Maryland, where she earned both a Bachelors and Masters degree in Physical Education. She worked for many years for Prince Georges County Public Schools as a Physical Education teacher before becoming a homemaker and raising her children. She used her exceptionals talents for creating a home filled with love and laughter.

She was a cherished companion to her late husbands, Joseph Marcinko (1983) and John Newland (1963), whose memories she held dear. As a mother to her sons, Thomas and James Marcinko, she was a beacon of support, guidance, and strength as she spent many years raising the boys on her own after her husband Joseph's death.

She was an extremely accomplished crafter and quilter. She enjoyed traveling and crafting and had a Christmas craft business for many years. She loved everything about the Christmas season and had an annual holiday village display that was extremely impressive. Her home became a winter wonderland each year, reflecting her love for the season's magic and the joy it brought to her family and friends.

Bobbie's interests extended beyond her artistic pursuits. She was an avid supporter of her grandchildren's sports endeavors, never missing a chance to cheer them on from the sidelines. She loved her grandsons with all her heart and never missed an opportunity to talk about them.

Those who knew Bobbie would describe her as loving, outspoken, and kind. She navigated life's challenges with resilience and grace, always finding a reason to smile and a way to uplift those around her. She truly believed that the glass was always half full. May we carry that with us as we honor her memory.
