Rudolf Birnbach Obituary

Rudolf W. Birnbach, a beloved husband, father, and respected community member, passed away peacefully on Monday 3-18-2024. Born in Chicago, IL, on April 5, 1937, Rudolf's early years were marked by a transatlantic journey that saw him spending his childhood amidst the tumult of the Second World War in Germany. His experiences during those formative years imbued him with a resilience and perspective that would define his life.

In 1952, Rudolf returned to the United States, a country he would once again call home. He found joy and camaraderie in soccer, proudly playing for the Baltimore Kickers, where his passion for the sport shone brightly. His commitment to service was evident through his dedication as a Corpsman in the U.S. Navy, a role he undertook with pride and honor.

Rudolf's adventurous spirit led him to become a member of the prestigious Cresta Club in St. Moritz, Switzerland, where his love for sports and adventure found a welcome home. An avid sportsman, Rudolf's enthusiasm for exploration took him to many corners of the world, fulfilling his deep love for travel.

Beyond his accomplishments and hobbies, Rudolf was a man of great warmth and affection. His legacy is carried on by his loving wife, Rita Birnbach, and his devoted son, Rudolf W. Birnbach Jr., along with a community of friends and acquaintances who were touched by his adventurous spirit.

The family will receive visitors on Saturday, March 23rd from 10-11am at Harry H. Witzke's Family Funeral Home 4112 Old Columbia Pike in Ellicott City, MD. A service to celebrate Rudolf's life will be held following the visitation at 11am at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Tunnel to Towers, an organization close to Rudolf's heart, in honor of his lifelong commitment to helping others.

Rudolf's journey through life was marked by courage, joy, and an unquenchable zest for adventure. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his spirit will forever inspire us to embrace life with open arms and a kind heart.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
