Obituary

Bernard Leo O’Neill (Bernie/Pop/BigB), passed away peacefully with his family by his side at Encore @ Turf Valley on September 1, 2019. The son of the late Llewllyn & Marie O’Neill (née Schleupner); he is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Mary Ellen (née Bowen); father to Patricia (Robert Owen); Michael (Debby Sheely); and Kevin (Noel Gibbons-O’Neill). “Pop” loved to tell stories and enjoyed every minute he spent with his 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Bernie was a parishioner for 58 years at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Ilchester, MD. He served in the Korean War where he was stationed in Tokyo Japan. Bernie was an avid golfer and founder of the Hi-Lo Golf Club with his brothers Joseph (late) and James. He loved to play Bocce with his fellow veterans from the VFW 7472 Yingling-Ridgely Post. He worked for the State of Maryland, Department of Licensing and Regulation, where he was the Chief Elevator Inspector for over 20 years.
