Beverly Ann Powell (nee Ballantine)

On August 24, 2019, Beverly Ann, of Baltimore. Loving mother of John P. Powell, Jr. and his wife Mary Alice. Cherished grandmother of Kelley C. Powell, Shelby A. Powell, and the late Christopher J. Powell. Dear sister of W. Thomas Ballantine and his wife Carol of Mandeville, LA., and niece, Tara Flannery and her husband Frank and their children Leah and Trevor, of Conroe, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents William and Margaret Ballantine.

Beverly worked for BG&E for 36 years, before retiring in 1993.  She held the position of Systems Analyst and Programmer, being part of the team, which installed the first Main Frame Computer System at BG&E.  She also worked in the Public Affairs Department, establishing the Government Affairs Program, an information program for employees.  Beverly was a lobbyist at the State level, testifying on and providing information to Legislators on legislative proposals in which BG&E had an interest.  Beverly was one of the first women to represent a major corporation in Annapolis.

After retiring, Beverly worked in the State Department of Legislative Reference, reviewing Bills to be introduced to the Legislature. Beverly was a familiar face at Harbor Hospital, where she served on the Board of Directors for several years. In addition, she was a longtime member of the Hospital Volunteers, working in the gift shop and serving as the President of the Volunteer Organization.

In past years, Beverly was an active member of Saint James United Methodist Church in West Friendship where she volunteered and enjoyed being part of caring and serving congregation. She was a resident of Baltimore City, Anne Arundel County, and Howard County.  She resided at the Charlestown Retirement Community in Baltimore.

A memorial service will be held to celebrate her life at St. James United Methodist Church in Marriottsville, MD on September 21, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Those wishing to make a donation in her memory may do so to:
