Cheryl Ann Atkas

Cheryl Ann Atkas, 68, passed away Tuesday evening August 20, 2019.

Cheryl was born in Putnam, CT to Gerald S. Barr and Lorraine T. (Bedard) Barr. She graduated from Seymour High School in 1969. She became a Cosmetologist and eventually went on to teach Cosmetology until she decided to further her education. She graduated Cum Laude from University of MD with a BA in Women’s Studies in 1992.

After graduation, she was employed by Office of Personal Management as a Government Investigator, then for VMH as a manager of retail demonstrators, and finally as a front office associate for Marriott until she retired in 2013.

She is survived by her loving husband Joseph P. Atkas, Jr. of 45 years, her daughter Megan (Atkas) Barner and son-in-law Aaron Barner, and 2 grandchildren Grayson and Adelynn Barner. She was the oldest of 4 children: Glen Barr, Renee (Barr) Clock, and Mark Barr.

She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother “Memay”. She loved travelling with her husband and family and was passionate about dancing, zumba and animals. She also enjoyed scuba diving and being creative with stamp art.

A Memorial service and celebration of life reception will be held on Monday, at 10 am at St. Alphonsus Rodriguez Church, 10800 Old Court Road, Woodstook, MD 21163, 410-461-5267.
