Donald Albert Kurtzman passed away peacefully on September 24, 2019. Don was born on April 3, 1924 in Tiffin, Ohio and was one of seven boys.
Upon graduating from high school, he joined the Army at the age of 18 and was an Army infantryman in General Patton’s army. Near the end of the war he was seriously wounded while warning his fellow soldiers that he had spotted a sniper. He was awarded a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star.
After the war, while attending Michigan State University, he met his future wife, Joan Simmer. They have been happily married for 70 years and have seven children.
Don spent his entire career in hotel and restaurant management. He was a devout Catholic and a 58 year member of St. Mark’s Parish in Catonsville, MD.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joan. He is also survived by 6 of his children: Chris Kurtzman (Linda), Timothy Kurtzman (Trish), Ann Kurtzman Zgorski (Bob), Scott Kurtzman (Donna), Michele Greenfield (Jim) and Greg Kurtzman (Sharon). He was predeceased by his son, Mark Kurtzman (Nancy). He is also survived by 21 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, with whom he had many enjoyable times.
In lieu of flowers the memorial donations can be made to St. Joseph’s Nursing Home in Catonsville or to Gilchrist Hospice.
