Donald Miles Obituary

Donald John Miles (Don), 84, Ellicott City, MD, went home to our God on Sunday, September 8, 2019 at 11:00pm.

Don was born November 5, 1934 to Walter Miles and Josephine Matecki Miles in Baltimore, MD. A graduate of Baltimore Polytechnic Institute and the University of Maryland, Don served as a engineer for the National Security Agency for over 30 years until his retirement in 1991. Deeply committed to his faith, Don enjoyed a fanciful exploration of theology and expressed his faith through a deep commitment to community and social justice.  Don and his wife, Carol, were early leaders in the Marriage Encounter movement. His ever-widening sense of community included work for interfaith and ecumenical dialogue and equality for marginalized peoples, while his commitment to justice led to involvement in the likes of the Baltimore Affordable Housing Coalition, the Catonsville Jaycees, and other advocacy initiatives at various points and time.

His family was his greatest joy, and Don will be lovingly remembered by his wife and best friend of nearly 58 years, Carol Mackin Miles; their children Ted (Ross), Tim (Doree Lynn), Stephen (Donna), Pat (Leigh) and Colleen; and their precious grandchildren Lapo, Kebede, and Rory.  Don will also be remembered by his siblings Jean Smith, Barbara Himmel, and Dave Miles along with numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and friends..
