Emma Louise Volenick (nee Armacost) age 87, known as “Emmy Lou”, devoted wife to the late William G. “Bill” Volenick, passed away peacefully from Alzheimer’s at her home in Morningside House of Ellicott City on Sunday, July 14, 2019.
Emmy Lou was born January 22, 1932 to Ellsworth and Marion Armacost in Baltimore, Maryland. She met the love of her life, Bill, in nursery school. They were married for nearly 60 years when he passed in 2012. They raised 3 daughters, Anita Hemseri (Turk), Julie Piolunek, and Linda Lee Hickerson (Brian).
Emmy Lou always said her life with Bill was intertwined because Bill’s father was the local doctor and Emmy Lou’s father was the local undertaker. Their relationship continued through high school and college. They married in 1953 and lived in Monterey, California, where Bill was stationed. During that time he attended the Army Language School. They moved to Woodlawn and then settled in Ellicott City in 1970. Emmy Lou worked at the Armacost Family Funeral Home and later enjoyed a nearly 25 year career in the Howard County States Attorneys office serving in the Juvenile Services Division. She and Bill loved to travel and cruised around the world.
In addition to her children, she leaves behind her loving sister Marell Mehring, sister-in-law Joan Volenick, cherished grandchildren Scott D. Broadfoot, Sr. (Victoria), Andrew Delcorro, and John Hickerson, along with her 5 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and a host of friends, all of whom will mourn her loss but celebrate her reunion with Bill in heaven.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her great-grandson Scott D. Broadfoot, Jr.
Should friends desire, in lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America and the Howard County Police Foundation (Youth Programs).
