A proud Virgin Islander, a humble civil servant, and a devoted family man are a few titles that appropriately describe the late Ishmael A. Meyers. In August 1973, Judge Meyers was appointed Assistant United States Attorney. In 1978, President Jimmy Carter appointed him United States Attorney for the Virgin Islands. In May 1982, Gov. Juan Luis nominated Judge Meyers to the then Territorial Court of the Virgin Islands, where he served with distinction until his retirement in November 2002. Judge Meyers was a lifelong member of the Memorial Moravian Church, numerous bar associations, and a life member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
Ishmael A. Meyers is survived by his wife of 47 years, Gwendolyn L. Meyers; son Ishmael, Jr. (Micol), daughter Micheline, son Michael (Zahira); grandchildren Jaylan, Matthew and Arianna.
We will miss him dearly but are comforted that he is now at peace. He touched the lives of many and we will always hold him in the center of our hearts.
