Col. James Franklyn Parker U.S. Army (retired), 96 of Bowie, MD, passed away in Columbia, MD on the 8th of June 2018, one month before his 97th birthday. he was born on July 18,1921 to James T. Parker and Grace Y. Parker in Oakland, CA. He graduated from the University of California School of Dentistry with a DDS degree. After graduation, he entered the military serving in the Army Dental Corps for 37 years. He served in Germany immediately following WWII and at two other times. He served with the 3rd Infantry Division during the Korean War. He ended his career with the rank of Colonel and his final assignment was as Chief Dental Surgeon at Fort Meade, MD. He was married to his wife, Sally J. Parker, for over 60 years and together they travelled to every continent on earth except Antartica. After retiring from the military, he and Sally lived in Okinawa, Japan for 10 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Grace, his wife Sally, his sister Florence Vickery and his grandson Jamie Parker. He is survived by his brother Howard G. Parker, sons James and Bryan, daughter Sally as well as 3 grandchildren, 8 great-children and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
