Margaret Custer Obituary

Margaret Louise Custer (Cassell), age 85, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on March 1st, 2019. She was born in Cass, West Virginia to Asa and Virgia Cassell. Marge grew up on a farm in West Virginia with her six siblings: brother, Dale and her sisters, Hazel, Beulah, Letha, Georgia and Glenna. Her parents moved to Maryland in 1945 when she was 12 years old.

Marge met the love of her life, Marvin Leroy Custer, in early 1952. They were married October 23, 1952 and welcomed their son, Terry Wayne Custer, one year later. They lived in Daniels, Maryland.

A few years later, they built a beautiful little rancher on Johnnycake Road, in Woodlawn, MD, where they often entertained both family and friends. Many fond memories were made there that will be cherished forever.

Marge’s career was in the food industry working for both Pantry Pride and Giant Food. After retiring, not being the type to ever sit still, she began a part time position in the dining room at Heartlands in Ellicott City where she met many close friends.

After her husband’s death in 2012, she sold her house to be closer to her son. She moved to Taylor Village and continued to develop many new friendships.

In the summer of 2018, as her cancer was progressing, she decided she could no longer live alone. Terry found her the perfect home away from home, Waterfalls of Catonsville, where she lived with the Deckers, who treated her like family. Her family is very grateful for their kind and loving care.

Marge spent her life helping and serving others, showing her love through her time and effort. She loved to host family gatherings and pool parties, and loved to help everyone with anything from dishes and ironing to mulching and weeding. It was through these tasks, that she cherished family time and took care of us all. She will be dearly missed.
