Martha Ann Ferkel, formerly of Ellicott City, Md. beloved wife of Donald Ferkel; devoted mother of Greta Ferkel and Delwyn Ferkel passed away on May 23, 2019, in Maryland.
Martha was born in North Carolina on July 1, 1937, the daughter of the late Effie Mabel Eldreth and Dain Miller. A devoted childhood educator, she obtained her Master's Degree in Reading Education from Towson State University and her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Winthrop University.
She taught elementary school and was a reading specialist in the Anne Arundel County school system. A former member of First Presbyterian Church of Howard County, she served the church in a variety of roles for over 40 years. She contributed to many people through her membership in PEO and the Manning Garden Club.
Determined and always caring, Martha put others before herself and encouraged everyone to rise to their highest potential. She fearlessly fought Parkinson's disease with grace and always retained her ability to laugh out loud and smile!
In addition to her immediate family, she is survived by her sisters Betty (Dennis) Stevens, Rosa Lee Anders, Linda (Larry) Delp, Shirley (Jim) Hire, brothers Harold Miller and Richard Miller, nephews Bryan Halsey, Brett Proffit, Branden Hire, Craig Osborne, Jeff Cornett, and nieces Daina Blevins and Jill Starling.
