Patrick Joseph Kearney, 56, of Ellicott City, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 17, 2017.  He was at home surrounded by his loving wife and children.

Pat, beloved by his family, countless friends and loyal customers of his business, was born on September 17, 1961.

The third eldest of five children born to John and Ella May Kearney, Pat was raised in the Maryland City section of Laurel, Maryland.  As a child, Pat, affectionately referred to as "PK," was a star athlete in baseball and football for the Maryland City Mustangs and developed a love for auto mechanics as a teenager.

In 1979, Pat graduated from Meade Senior High School in Ft George G. Meade, MD.

After sampling the coat and tie business world, Pat could not escape the pull of his first occupational love -- servicing cars -- and began working at Custom Auto Repair in the early 1980's, where he worked as a mechanic part time while putting himself through college.  Pat graduated from the University of Maryland, where he earned his Bachelors Degree in Economics in 1984.  In the mid 1990's, Pat purchased Custom Auto Repair Shop in Laurel, MD.   As owner/ operator, Pat guided the combination upholstery and five-bay auto repair shop on US Route 1 to great success... while enjoying a very good time along the way.  After work hours, Custom Auto Repair was a welcoming rally point for childhood friends, new acquaintances, customers and vendors to stop in for a soda, coffee or beer -- and always laughs.

Pat was an avid fan of his alma mater and a lifelong supporter of all professional sports teams based in Baltimore.  Forever the natural athlete, Pat loved the occasional golfing get-away and any chance to eat crabs.  Pat never met a dog he didn't love, and in his downtime, enjoyed betting on Thoroughbred horse racing.

The biggest joy in his life was his three sons.  He truly enjoyed spending time with his family on their many vacations to the Outer Banks and cheering on his boys from the sidelines at their many football, baseball and basketball games over the years.

In 2014, Pat was diagnosed with prostate cancer and fought the disease with courage, demonstrating a positive outlook that was infectious and inspiring to all who were with him during his journey.

Pat is survived by his loving wife, Ann Kearney (nee Lozupone), whom he married in 1994, and their three wonderful sons Patrick, Ryan, & Jack; as well as Pat's mother, Ella May Kearney; siblings John Kearney (Bonnie), Kathleen Tennant, Chris Kearney (Shawn), and Joe Kearney; nephews Blair Tennant, Brendan Lozupone (Brittany), Thomas Lozupone and Nicholas Lozupone; nieces Kristina Lozupone and Katherine Lozupone and great niece Ava Lozupone.  Pat is pre-deceased by his father John Kearney.

Pat will be remembered for his heart of gold and fun-loving spirit. He will be sorely missed by everyone who had the great fortune to know him.
