Ralph Albert Fowler, age 81, of Ellicott City, MD passed away Thursday, July 26, 2018. He was born May 17, 1937, to Albert and Helen (nee Schmansky) Fowler in Baltimore, MD.
He graduated from Baltimore Poly Technical Institute in 1955. Following high school he attended the Electronics Institute. He earned a BS degree in Electrical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University through the Westinghouse Scholarship Program and a Masters degree in Business.
He was a member of the 29th Division of the Army National Guard for three years and the Air Force National Guard for three years. He was a member of Brooklyn Methodist Church until he transferred his membership to Glen Mar United Methodist Church in 1966. He was a member of the I.B.M. and S.A.M. magical clubs. He enjoyed performing his magic at local schools, conventions and within the Howard Co. community. His children and grandchildren often assisted in his acts. His magic career culminated with his performance at the Magic Castle in Hollywood, California circa 1993.
He retired from the Westinghouse Corporation in 1991 after 33 years of service.
He enjoyed many activities such as skiing, racquetball, bicycling, swimming and visiting Disney World. He was a steel guitar player with the Rusty Pluckers and several local bands. He loved and enjoyed his seven grandchildren and often took them to the movies, bicycling, hiking, and sight-seeing.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Patricia Fowler (nee Pyles) and sons, Ralph, Jr. (Colleen) and Adam (Lisa). He was preceded in death by daughter, Jayne and parents, Albert and Helen. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Kayla Langr (Mark), Bradley, Matthew (Erin), Heather Larkin (Bryan), Tyler Adkins, Samson (Kelsey) and Abigail. And, three great-granddaughters, Adalyn, Tessa, and Heidi. He is also survived by brother, Melvyn.
