Robert V. McCarthy, whom you probably knew as “Bob,” or “Booobby”, if you are from his home state of New Jersey, passed away in his sleep Monday, November 6th 2018. Bob was still pinching himself that his wife, Laura, said, “Yes” 31 years ago. Actually, as the story goes, he said, “So, when are we getting married?” and Laura, always the practical one, replied with a date.
Bob was probably the most joyful person you ever met, unless of course, you know his daughter Hillary who is basically Bob without the goatee, or his son Thomas who is a bit more like his mother, but with his father’s sense of humor. Together the four of them lived in their Columbia, MD home with their late “Pop-pop,” Don. Here Bob taught the kids that family is the most important thing and cherished every moment with them, especially in the backyard.
Bob retired from the Social Security Administration after 24 years of luncheons, I mean service. In his retirement he met the second love of his life his 1967 Firebird, “Arrow,” that he restored.
In addition to his wife and kids, his brother Ed, sister-in-law Pat; sister Patty, brother-in-law Tony; in-laws George, Charlotte, Robin, Denis, Howard and Lori; nieces and nephews Susan, Michale, Katie, Brian, Robyn, Val, Bryan, Brittany, Mark, Julie, Eric, Christina, Noah, Matthew and Amy; and grand-nephew and nieces Thomas, Megan and Claire will miss him very much.
He is reunited with his parents Edmund and Adaline who he has missed for far too long; his father-in-law Don with who is cutting him a piece of blueberry pie this very moment; and his God son and nephew Nick.
