ROBERT JOSEPH NEUBAUER passed away on February 26, 2018 at the age of 97, at the Charlestown Retirement Community in Catonsville, MD, where he had resided since 2008.
The eldest son of Clarence G. Neubauer, Sr., a one-time pharmacist and later owner of a hardware business; and Mary B. Neubauer, nee Holland, a former secretary for State Senator Orlando Harrison.
He was predeceased in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Annette Neubauer, nee Rowe, who died suddenly on March 23, 2004. He was the devoted and loving father of Susan A. Simmons (Jerry), David R. Neubauer, Martha N. Foley (Jack), and Annette L. Katz (Robert).
He is also survived by his sister, Gloria Bailey, and grandchildren Rachel Simmons, Jennifer Palmer, Adam Neubauer and Danielle N. Katz, as well as great-grand children Caitlin, Brendan and Rebecca Palmer, and Logan Neubauer.
Robert graduated from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute and the University of Baltimore School of Law. He received his law degree in 1948, graduation having been postponed as a result of three years of service with the U.S. Army Air Force in World War II.
He entered into a law practice with his esteemed uncle, John J. Neubauer, Jr., working out of offices in the former Keyser Building in Baltimore City. Following his uncle’s death, he maintained his practice in the World Trade Center for ten years until his retirement in 1984. During his tenure, he was a member of the Baltimore, MD and American Bar Associations.
He and his wife, Annette (who was an honors graduate of Goucher College, and member of Phi Beta Kappa) enjoyed travelling to Western and Eastern Europe and vacationing in the Caribbean. They lived in Howard County for many years until moving to Ocean Pines, MD. Annette was also an accomplished painter, having studied under Gino Minella, and was often awarded top prizes for her work at juried art shows around the area.
Visitation will be at Harry H. Witzke’s Family Funeral Home located at 4112 Old Columbia Pike, Ellicott City, MD from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Sunday, March 4, 2018.
A funeral service and mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Angels Roman Catholic Church at Charlestown Retirement Community in Catonsville at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 5, 2018. The family will receive friends and guests prior to the service at 10:00 AM at the church.
Interment will take place at Lorraine Park Cemetery, 5608 Dogwood Road, Gwynn Oak, MD.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Charlestown Benevolent Fund or to Gilchrist Hospice of Howard County.
