On August 26, 2019, Werner Kloetzli Jr.; loving husband of the late Bettye S. Kloetzli; cherished father of John W. Kloetzli (Alice), Thomas W. Kloetzli (Margaret L.), Richard F. Kloetzli (Pam), and Cynthia K. White (Allan); beloved grandfather of Liesel Davidson, John W. Kloetzli, Jr., Abigail Rueger, Aimee Moran, Alexander M. Velle III; great-grandfather of 9 and soon to be 10.
Born of immigrant Swiss parents in Allentown, PA, he grew up in Baltimore where he attended “Poly” and earned a Master's Degree in Civil Engineering from Johns Hopkins. Marriage to Bettye Lou followed. The Army called Werner to Germany in 1950 and Bettye Lou came along. In a few years they returned with memories and a son. The family grew with two more sons and finally a daughter.
Werner took his young family to church every week, but questions began to grow in his mind. Was the Bible the "word of God"? Was it reliable in its entirety? He led his family in this quest for answers and grew in his faith and understanding, as did his family. His children grew up, married, and gave him five grandchildren. Eventually, after he lost Bettye Lou, nine (soon 10!) great-grandchildren came along to comfort him.
Werner suffered a stroke in June - followed by a series of health setbacks: hospitals, rehabs, assisted living, and finally hospice. He asked for an explanation of his "exact condition." He was told the doctors could not cure him and that he would be with the Lord in a few days.
His response was "I can't wait. I can't wait." He only had to wait a few days.
He knew in whom he believed. This was his final lesson to his family. He is now home with his Lord.
