William Roy Deven, Jr.

William Roy Deven Jr., 86, of Ellicott City, MD, died 8/7/18. Bill was born on 12/22/1931 to William R. Deven and Helen Bennett Deven, in Brownsville, PA. He graduated from Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh where he majored in Accounting and Business Administration, later becoming a CPA. Bill was a Veteran of the Korean War and served in the Army for 2 years.

Most recently, he and his loving wife of 60 years, Vera, were members of Columbia Presbyterian Church. They were past members of St. John's Episcopal Church in Ellicott City and Bishop Cummins Reformed Episcopal Church in Catonsville, where they have many long lasting relationships.

Bill was in Public Accounting and then joined Ryland Homes in Columbia, MD in 1968 where he became the VP of Finance / CFO until 1988, after 20 years. Bill then joined Search Ministries as their COO where he worked for 11 years until he retired in 1999.

Bill attributed his joy-filled life to a radical change experienced on October 20, 1976. It was on that day Bill began his personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. For the next four decades he faithfully served his Lord and Savior. Bill served on many boards and committees, notably with Search Ministries and with the CS Lewis Institute. In his free time he enjoyed gardening and spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, sisters and friends.

Bill was the beloved husband of Vera B. Deven; devoted father of Bill Deven (Vickie), Beth Cascadden (Kenneth), Katie Ferrer (Rob), and the late Michael Deven; loving grandfather of David Deven, Bryan Deven, Grace, Caroline, and Eve Cascadden, and Wil, Deven, and Ella Ferrer; dear brother of the late Eleanor Storey (the late Sam), Jane Sargeant (the late Chuck), Dot Herrington (the late Bruce), Mary Vasiloff (the late Willie), Nancy Birkle (Kernie), and Jean Hancock (the late Jim). Also survived by many loving family and friends.
