Alice Zack Obituary

On May 29, 2020 Alice Margaret (Miles) Zack passed peacefully in her sleep at St. Joseph’s  Nursing Home in Catonsville, Maryland. Alice celebrated her 100th birthday last July 13th surrounded by family and friends. Alice lived a full life in the century that she spent on Earth. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Zack, Sr., cherished mother of Patricia Roso, Susan Leihy and the late Joseph Zack, Jr.; dear sister of John Miles and Barbara Butler; loving grandmother of Frank Roso, Jr., Steven Roso, Jennifer Roso Audlin, and Adrienne Leihy; great-grandmother of Ravenna Roso, Europa Roso, Braeden Audlin and Keigan Audlin.

Alice grew up the second oldest of five children in her family. She was both the responsible older sister that often cared for her younger siblings yet the jokester of the family who always knew how to make everything fun. She married the love of her life, Joseph Zack, Sr. after only knowing him for a month! They married in Florida in 1938 and then moved to Baltimore where they settled down and started their family. The excitement over the birth of their first child, Joseph Jr., was saddened by his premature passing from a heart condition just after his first birthday. It was a heartbreak that Alice carried with her the rest of her life. Fortunately joy came after the birth of their second child, Patricia and again after their third child, Susan.

Alice was always playing a prank and getting a laugh. When others thought to despair, she found the lighter side. Patricia and Susan witnessed her comedy but it was probably her grandchildren that appreciated it the most. Alice made everything fun. Joe and Alice’s marriage lasted 52 years before he passed in 1990. Alice did not despair after Joe’s passing. She continued to find joy in her family and friends. She visited her siblings over the years in Florida, Alabama, Virginia and New York. She had an active social life and too many friends to count. Alice was easy to love.

Although we would love to come together at this time to celebrate the 100 years of life of Alice Zack, the Coronavirus keeps us from doing that now. So please share a favorite story about Alice on the tribute wall of this page. At a later time, when it is safe to convene, we will reach out to everyone to join us for a meal and a toast to our beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend.

In lieu of flowers, at the family's request donations in Alice's name may be made to St. Joseph's Nursing home http://www.stjosephs.net/donate-now
