Ana Quiteres Obituary

Ana Dos Santos Quiteres, age 79, passed away peacefully after a courageous two-year battle with ALS, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born in Atalaia do Campo, Portugal, to João Quiteres and Maria dos Santos.

Ana’s life journey led her from Portugal to France, and later to the United States, where she built a life rooted in family, tradition, and hard work. She was married for 60 years to her beloved husband, Manuel Oliveira Torres, who preceded her in death.

She was a devoted mother to Celia Domingues and Marina Coull, and a proud and generous grandmother to four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Ana is survived by her sister, Victoria Dos Santos, and was preceded in death by her brother, Antonio Dos Santos Quiteres.

Ana was a woman of simplicity and routine, finding comfort in familiarity and stability. She worked alongside her daughter Celia for many years, remaining active and dedicated until her health no longer allowed her to continue. Strong-willed and opinionated, she was also deeply emotional and wore her heart on her sleeve.

She found joy in life’s simple pleasures—watching Hispanic novelas, hunting for bargains and the next great yard sale, taking long walks, and cooking for her family. She was especially known for her homemade soups, her famous fresh cheese, and her cherished arroz doce. She loved her country deeply and always carried Portugal and the family she left behind close to her heart.

A faithful Catholic, Ana continued attending church after her diagnosis for as long as she was physically able, later finding comfort by watching Mass on television.

Despite her ALS diagnosis, Ana exceeded all medical expectations. Her strength came from her deep love for life and her family. The thought of missing out on their lives gave her the determination to hold on—until God, and her late husband Manuel, came to take her home.

Ana Dos Santos Quiteres will be remembered for her devotion to family, her resilience, her traditions, and the quiet strength with which she lived her life. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
