Andrew Schmier Obituary

It is with deep pain and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Andrew Peter Schmier, beloved Son and Brother who left us far too soon on December 8, 2024, at the age of 25. Born on August 9,1999, in Annapolis, Maryland, Andrew was a bright light in the lives of those who knew him, and his impact will be felt forever.

Andrew was the beloved son of Robert G. Schmier and Stephanie P. Boyd. He grew up surrounded by love and support, nurtured by parents and grandparents who instilled in him the values of loving kindness, selflessness, and thoughtfulness. Andrew shared an inseparable love and bond with his parents, siblings Summer and Austin, and extended family who cherished him deeply and will forever hold his memory close to their hearts.

Andrew was actively pursuing a degree in chemical engineering at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). Academics never came easy for him, but his dedication and hard work showed at every step. Andrew never gave up.

Andrew was immensely talented and had a wide array of hobbies, many of which showed just how fearless and adventurous he was. He loved to rock climb, ride dirt bikes and motorcycles, work out, and to top it all off, he learned to fly helicopters. He also had a creative side that blossomed through his love for writing music, creating videos, and taking stunning photographs.

Andrew held a special place in the heart of his sister Summer, with whom he had a best-friend connection. When he was little, she taught him how to swim, she called him “Rin” and he called her “Boom”, they had a secret handshake, and she acted as his translator to his parents, where he would whisper to her what he wanted to say but couldn’t explain. Andrew was the youngest sibling and his mother called him “Little, Little”. He loved his mother’s cooking more than anyone and would go out of his way to make it to dinner at her house. He and his mother have a bond that runs deeper than eternity and that cannot be separated by death of the body. Andrew also loved to spend quality time with his father, sister, and brother in a beaten old metal boat floating out on the Severn River, sailing to hidden fishing spots and dropping our lines to wait for fish.

Anyone who had the privilege of calling Andrew family was an extremely lucky person. Andrew was lionhearted, and protected his mother, father and family fiercely. Family was the most important part of his life. He was selfless and cared deeply for everyone around him. Andrew was a very sensitive person. He saw this as a weakness and often tried to hide it, but everyone who knew him knew that this was one of his greatest strengths. This world was a better place for every moment Andrew walked on it, no matter how few those moments were. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.

Tragically, Andrew's life was cut short due to a motorcycle accident, a heartbreaking and shocking loss that has left a profound void in the lives of his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Andrew will be remembered not only for his talents and passions but also for the deep empathy and love he shared with those he cared for.

A celebration of Andrew's life will be held on December 15, 2024, at 1:00 PM. Family and friends are invited to gather and honor his memory, sharing stories and reflecting on the beautiful moments they experienced with him.

As we say goodbye to Andrew Peter Schmier, we hold tightly to the memories of his laughter, his adventurous spirit, and his boundless love. He will forever remain in our hearts, a guiding star in our lives, and a reminder to cherish every moment we have with those we love. Rest in peace, dear Andrew; you are deeply missed.
