Ann Tinder Park, wife of John M. Park, Jr. (deceased), passed away
peacefully on Saturday afternoon, June 8, 2024, at Brighton Gardens of
Columbia, MD.
Ann Park was born in Shelbyville, TN on April 24, 1929, the daughter
of Dr. Frank and Lissa Tinder, now deceased. The family moved soon after
to Richmond, KY, where her father was the minister of First Christian
Church. She graduated from Model High School in Richmond, KY with the
class of 1947, then attended Mount Holyoke College, South Hadley, MA,
majoring in Art.
She had many interests throughout her life. She collected, repaired,
and created authentic costumes for antique dolls, and produced artwork
(vintage paper dolls for doll dealers) for many, many years, becoming well-
known in the antique doll-collecting world. Her collection was truly one-of-a-
kind. "Sawdust and Ink" was the name of her successful business.
Ann was invited to become a member of the Miniature Painters
Sculptors and Gravers Society, a prestigious international arts organization
that holds juried shows of members' artwork. Her small, intricately-colored
pencil drawings were accepted each year she entered and won numerous
prizes.
Among her other artistic pursuits, she designed the plans for a large
addition to her home in Columbia, MD, including a curving staircase and
stained-glass window. She also loved to make earrings from glass and
semi-precious stones she discovered in antique shops and gem shows.
She is survived by three daughters: Kathryn P. Stansbery (Harlan),
Sharon E. Park (Robert Counihan), and Melissa P. Stanford (Gregory).
There are four grandchildren: Kathryn J. Stansbery, Megan Quintana
Rivas (Francisco), Rebecca Stanford (Jeffrey), Jeffrey Stanford (Kathleen),
and one great-grandchild, Jemimah Stanford.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ann’s memory to the
