Anne Dower Obituary

Anne Kathleen Mulcahy Dower died peacefully after a short battle with an aggressive form of abdominal cancer on December 16, 2025 in Lewes, DE.  She was born on August 17, 1954 to Edward William Mulcahy and Kathleen Lyon Mulcahy in Washington, DC. Her father’s career in the U.S. Foreign Service took them all over the world, including Italy, Greece, Tunisia, and Zimbabwe.  As a result, Anne lived in and traveled to many countries throughout her life and spoke several languages. Her upbringing instilled in her a lifelong love of art and an interest in different cultures.

Anne was married to Charles Michael Dower for 47 years, they raised four children together, Michael Edward, Katherine Eileen, Allison Marie, and Suzanne Virginia. She was a loving wife and devoted mother.

She graduated from Notre Dame of Maryland with her degree in English in 2000. Anne loved literature and was an aspiring author and poet. She was an avid reader and often had several books with her in case she had time to read. Anne had many jobs throughout her life, but teaching was her passion; she taught English as a Second Language at Howard County Community College, served as a substitute teacher for Howard County schools, and volunteered as a CCD instructor for Resurrection Catholic Church.

She was a devout Catholic, serving her church as a Eucharistic Minister, a lector, and with various charitable contributions and services.

Anne is survived by her husband, four siblings, four children, and two grandchildren. She will be dearly missed. Her thoughtful concern for others and devotion to her family was truly unique.

Donations can be made in her honor to the Little Sisters of the Poor in Newark, DE.
