Barbara Ann Sutton, known affectionately as Barb to her friends and family, passed away peacefully from natural causes on September 1, 2024, in Columbia, MD. Born on February 14, 1943, in Baltimore, MD, Barb's life was woven with love, intelligence, and a spirited nature that touched everyone she knew.
Barb's journey began as the beloved daughter of John and Mildred Cunningham and grew to include a cherished circle of family and friends. In her youth, she developed a passion for helping others, which led her to pursue an education at the University of Maryland, School of Radiology. Her career as an x-ray technician was marked not only by her skill but also by the deep connections she forged with colleagues and patients alike.
At the heart of Barb's world was her family. She was the loving wife of Edmund Sutton, with whom she shared 57 married years full of memories and adventures. Together, they raised their son, John Sutton, and warmly welcomed Darcy Sutton into the family as a daughter-in-law. Barb was also a nurturing mother to her daughter, Beth Czyryca, and enjoyed a close relationship with her son-in-law, Christopher Czyryca. Her life was further enriched by the joy of her grandchildren, Jack and Kevin Sutton, and K. Chris and Aidan, who will miss her dearly.
Barb's family tree branched out to include her ornery little brothers, Thomas Cunningham and his wife Barbara, and Gregory Cunningham, as well as her late brother, Jerome Cunningham. Her nieces and nephews, each holding a special place in her heart, will carry forward her legacy of love and kindness.
Barb's interests and hobbies were as diverse as they were delightful. She was a masterful bridge player, a bunco enthusiast, and a skilled cake decorator. Her calligraphy graced the invitations and cards of many special occasions, and her talents as a seamstress added beauty and warmth to the lives of those she loved, as well as many incredible Halloween costumes. Travel was another of Barb's passions, with cruising the seas and exploring new destinations bringing her immense joy. Whether at happy hour with colleagues or a family party, Barb was always the life of the celebration, creating moments of laughter and happiness that will be cherished forever.
Barb's spirit, a beacon of love and generosity, will continue to inspire those who knew her. She was predeceased by her devoted dogs Toby and Hopalong Trailboss Randolph (Randy). Each held a special place in her life and heart.
As Barb's sun sets, we remember a woman whose life was a testament to the power of love, the joy of friendship, and the beauty of family. Her intelligence and lively spirit will be fondly remembered and sorely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Barbara Ann Sutton's story does not end with her passing but continues in the lives of those she touched, the memories she created, and the love she shared.
May her soul rest in eternal peace, and may her family and friends find comfort in the knowledge that her legacy will live on through the countless lives she has enriched. Barb's journey was one of grace and joy, and she will forever be remembered as a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
