Betty Loomis Obituary

Betty Ann (Abeln) Loomis, 95, passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 26th, 2025. Born on September 24th, 1929, in Baltimore, Maryland to her loving parents Elizabeth and Henry. Betty attended Western High School before marrying Bob Loomis on August 21st, 1948. Betty and Bob went on to have four beautiful children, Joanne, Bobby, Jeff, and David.

Betty’s first job was working for Montgomery Ward in Baltimore, Maryland, but her passion for helping others inspired her to pursue a different path. She went on to find her lifelong career working as a school secretary for 27 years at St. John’s Lane Elementary School in Ellicott City, Maryland. Betty’s spirit for helping others was truly seen when interacting with the families, being a helping hand for the kids, and keeping everything organized and running smoothly. This job was one of her greatest joys in life.

When she wasn’t working, she enjoyed puzzles, traveling, and using her season tickets to go to Baltimore Colts and Orioles games. One of her favorite places to be was the beach. Throughout her life, she enjoyed vacations to Wildwood, New Jersey and Siesta Keys, Florida, and St. Petersburg beach. Betty’s devoted and passionate spirit will be dearly missed.

Betty is survived by her children, Joanne Patricia Walter, Robert Elmer Loomis Jr., Jeffery Alan Loomis, and David Edward Loomis; grandchildren, Chip Adams, Jessica Littleton, Shawn Loomis, Jack Loomis, and Evie Loomis; great-grandchildren, Taylor Walter, Emily Cassup-Armstrong, Alyssa Dix, and Kennedy Loomis; and cousins, Diane Bachman and Glenn Dixon. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Loomis Sr.; parents, Elizabeth (Cantwell) Abeln and Henry Abeln; grandparents, John and Elizabeth Cantwell; aunt and uncle, Bernadette Dixon and John (Joe) Cantwell; and great-uncle, Thomas Cantwell.
