Brenda J. Nielsen (Bloom), age 70, of Ellicott City, Maryland, passed peacefully on May 13, 2023, in the presence of her family and loved ones. She fought a long battle with end stage liver disease and other medical challenges. Brenda was born in Baltimore, Maryland on August 8, 1952, to Mary Helen (Manis) Willis and the late Lindberg Johns, and stepdaughter of Bennie Willis. She is the beloved wife of Peter G. Nielsen; loving mother of David Scot Bloom (Julie), Thomas Matthew Bloom (Lindsay), Andrew Jonathan Bloom (Jennifer), Victoria Farrell (Joey), Josh Nielsen (Cambreal); adoring grandmother of Nathan, Alexandria, Alayna, Brandon, Nolan, Hayden, Trenton, John and Natalie; cherished sister of Linda Johns, Judy Weber, Tonya Ayers (Stephen), Allen Johns and Phillip Johns; dear aunt of Mark, Daniel, Paul, Brian, Anthony, Steven, Theresa and Shannon.
Brenda was a 1970 graduate of Catonsville High School. She worked at Howard County General Hospital, serving as a credentialing specialist before she retired. Brenda enjoyed handicrafts, sewing, needlework, knitting, painting and quilting.
Family will receive friends at the Harry H. Witzke’s Family Funeral Home, 4112 Old Columbia Pike, Ellicott City, on Sunday, May 21, 2023, from 2 – 4 & 6 – 8pm. A funeral service will be held at Bethel Baptist Church on Monday, May 22, 2023, beginning at 11am (Live streaming available). Interment following at Crestlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Samaritan’s Purse.
