Brian Christopher Dowling, beloved son of Mary and Robert Dowling, and brother of Caitlan Dowling, died on August 17th.
He was a kind and sensitive soul. He loved books, a voracious reader, and movies, especially ones that exemplified the hero’s journey. Batman, Harry Potter and Star Wars were among his favorites. He also loved to write and dreamed of writing a screenplay and did write songs. He was deeply interested in the author’s and directors of the books and movies he loved. He noticed all the nuances, the words, the lighting, the camera angles. He was a deep thinker. He noticed when others were hurting. We received a beautiful email from one of his middle school teachers that Brian noticed she looked sad and was having a bad day, and told her he hoped she would be okay. She was very touched.
Brian loved to move his body and broke many bones trying to “defy gravity”. He visited Grandparents and his Uncle’s in the hospital and enjoyed talking with them, often having long conversations. He graduated from Glenelg High school in 2015. He loved our many dogs, and several very close friends he knew that loved him.
He is survived by his mom, Mary Meisinger Dowling, father Robert H. Dowling lll, sister, Caitlan Ryan Dowling, uncle, Mark C. Meisinger, aunt, Michelle Dowling Schafer, uncle Dr. David Schafer, and many other kind family and friends that loved him. He will be deeply missed and live in our hearts forever.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation, a charity of your choice or a gift or act of kindness to a loved one or stranger.
