Carol A. Hanson, wife of the late Wayne Q. Hanson, passed away early in the morning on February 28, 2024, surrounded by her family.
She was the daughter of the late Leon and Margaret Lawton of Pennsylvania.
After graduating from Meadville high school in 1952, she found her way to Florida. She worked for Citrus World, more specifically performing bookkeeping duties for Donald Duck orange juice. She then took a job with Westinghouse where she met her future husband of 44 years. After living in various locations, she and Wayne settled permanently in Ellicott City, Maryland. After which, Carol devoted her time to raising her children. Once her children were in high school, she went back to work. She finished her career by working for the Howard County Library for fifteen years.
She and Wayne were avid square dancers and belonged to the Tom Thumbs square dance club. This club provided years of lasting friendships and fond memories. Carol was a faithful woman who knew the Lord. She was a member of the Bethany United Methodist Church for the last 48 years which provided Carol with unwavering fulfillment and sanctuary.
Carol is survived by her son, John Hanson and his fiancée, Roberta DeLong, her daughters, Cynthia Stecher and Susan Turfle as well as her son-in-law, Jeffry Turfle. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren and a host of family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carol’s memory to the Bethany Methodist Church, 2875 Bethany Ln, Ellicott City, MD 21042.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Carol’s life at a memorial service on May 18, 2024 at the Bethany United Methodist Church. The service will begin at 11:00am in the main sanctuary with lunch immediately afterwards in the fellowship hall.
