Carol Kimmel Obituary

Carol Sue Kimmel passed away on November 30, 2024, in Clarksville, MD. Born on August 28, 1937, in Ladoga, IN. Carol was the beloved daughter of the late Henry “Harry” and Ruby Brunst and the devoted sister to Janet Kimmel and Lynn Behner. Her early years in Ladoga, Indiana were filled with the warmth of a close-knit family. She met and married her high-school sweetheart and the love of her life, Bill Kimmel. Together, they devoted themselves to one another and their family for 69 wonderful years of marriage.

Carol spent several years in the Philippines right after high school where Bill was stationed in the Air Force and they started their family. After Bill was stationed in Maryland, they settled for good but always remained close to their family and roots in Indiana, often traveling multiple times a year for visits.

Despite the challenges of losing her beloved son, Bill Kimmel Jr., and later his son, Bill Kimmel III, Carol remained a pillar of strength for her surviving children, Jeff Kimmel (Laura) and Deborah Wahl (Rick), and she cherished every moment with her grandchildren, Paul Steves (Marie), Michael Steves Jr., Joshua Steves (Ashley), Eric Kimmel (Shelagh), Rebekah Smith (Josh), Rachel Polk (Jordan), and Andrew Wahl. Her great-grandchildren, Christian, Prudence, Audrey, Toben, Trinity, Judah, Elias, Talitha, Samuel, Delaney, Shiloh, Blake were the joy of her later years.

Carol's determination shone as she earned her bachelor's degree in her early 50’s while continuing to work full-time and help Bill to build their new home in Clarksville. Dedication was a hallmark of her 30-year career at the Department of Defense, where her exemplary work was recognized with numerous awards. Her colleagues admired her for her sharp intellect and unwavering commitment to excellence.

At home, Carol’s passion for excellence was exhibited in her care for her husband. Bill never lacked for any good thing. She created an inviting home and warm family memories for most every holiday meal. Her culinary skills were unmatched, and her housekeeping was impeccable. Carol's nurturing spirit extended beyond her family as she generously supported many charities through the years in hopes of making a positive impact on the lives of others.

After retirement, Carol enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, travel and researching family history. Her love for collecting antiques also spoke to her appreciation for history as well as fine craftsmanship. Carol found joy in spoiling her dogs and solace in bringing order and beauty to her yard and gardens.

Friends and family will remember Carol for her sweet nature and her generous smile. Carol's family takes comfort in knowing she is now reunited with her beloved son, grandson, a great granddaughter, parents, and sister in eternal peace. Her dedication and passion for excellence will be recounted with fondness, ensuring her legacy will continue to be a source of strength and love for generations to come.
