Carole Zink Obituary

Carole Ann Zink, Award winning Artist and Motivator

June 17, 1940 - January 16, 2018

Ellicott City, Maryland

Carole Ann Brown was a native of Maryland, born and raised in Baltimore City. She married Lester Zink in 1962 and established their home in Maryland. While raising their 5 children Lester and Carole Ann enjoyed water activities and developed a love for the Maryland and Chesapeake Bay countryside and its rich heritage, which became the inspiration for her artwork. They moved to Ellicott City 27 years ago and became active members in the community while enjoying the many historic landmarks.

Her passion for art began in early childhood and with the encouragement of her mother and family she studied art, taking private lessons in oil painting. She continued her studies at Merganthaler in the Graphic Arts program and the Maryland Institute in the Fine Arts, including charcoal, pastels, and oils. Her career began as a technical illustrator and drafter. She worked as a contractor in the Aerospace industry in the Baltimore/Washington Metropolitan area for twenty five years. After raising her five children she continued her studies at Catonsville Community College and graduated with an AA degree from the arts program. Having a strong background in drafting and illustration gave Carole Ann a good foundation for her subjects that include figures, animals, buildings, landmarks of Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Ellicott City, and scenes of the Maryland countryside and the Chesapeake Bay area.

Her paintings are in private and corporate collections. She has exhibited in Baltimore, Columbia, Annapolis, and Ellicott City. In January of 2003 she organized the Painting Together Artists at the Ellicott City Senior Center. The group works in mixed mediums; charcoal, oils, pastels and watercolor. The group is a mix of professional and hobbyist and range from beginner to experts. They gather to share their talents and enjoy the art of painting together. The group has hosted multiple shows around the area where the artists can display and sell their artwork, their motto is “paint-show-sell”. This has been a wonderful program for the Ellicott City Seniors and has inspired many to rediscover their love of the arts and motivates many to paint again with passion and purpose.
