Cynthia "Cindy" Johnson Obituary

Cynthia (Cindy) Anne Johnson (Dix), 67, passed away on February 27, 2026. She is preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Catherine Dix. She is survived by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Elaine and Homero Bayarena and Michele and Quentin Sedney.  Devoted aunt to Ian and Sioban Sedney, Megan and Eric Shanahan, Colleen Sedney, Emilio Bayarena and Brennan Sedney.  She is also survived by her great nephew Cooper Shanahan and her great nieces Shea Shanahan and Saorise Sedney.

Cindy attended St. Anthony’s of Padua in Gardenville, The Catholic High School of Baltimore, and Loyola University where she earned a Master’s in Speech Language Therapy.  She started with Howard County Public Schools System in 1981 as a Speech Language Pathologist at Talbot Springs Elementary then transitioned to become the Speech Language Pathologist for the Assistive Communication Technology Team (ACTT).  After working on that team for some years, Cindy began her work in early intervention as a member of the Instructional Support Team developing comprehensive programs for young children with autism and related disabilities and their families.  She later served as a resource teacher with the Office of Early Intervention Services and finished her thirty year career with Howard County Public Schools as Project Facilitator for the infant and toddlers program and extended school year services for preschoolers with disabilities. Her calm demeanor and expertise allowed her to be a wonderful mentor to many Howard County teachers and therapists.  She made a huge impact on the lives of children with disabilities and their families.

In Cindy’s spare time, she enjoyed spending time with her friends and family. She loved playing games and reading books with her games group and book club. Cindy loved going to craft fairs and was even a little crafty herself making her own cards. Her most favorite time of year was Christmas – she was an avid snowman collector.

Her family and friends have been truly blessed to have her as a part of their lives.  Cindy will be remembered for her never-ending kindness and the quiet, caring way she made everyone around her feel loved. Those who had the privilege of knowing her will carry her loving spirit with them always – a reminder of the difference one kind soul can make.

Family will receive those who wish to pay their respects on Sunday, March 8, 2026, between 3 pm and 6 pm. A funeral mass will be held at Church of the Resurrection in Ellicott City on Monday, March 9, 2026, at 1:30 pm.
