He attended the University of Illinois on an NROTC scholarship, graduating in 1970 with a bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical & Astronautical Engineering.  Upon graduation, he was also commissioned in the United States Navy where he served in the US Pacific Fleet as a Nuclear trained Submarine Officer, most notably aboard the USS Tautog (SSN-639).  He was certified as an Engineer Officer of Naval Nuclear Propulsion Plants.  He left the Navy in 1975 with the rank of Lieutenant.

Mr. Scheiwe moved to Columbia in 1975. He was employed as an engineer and Project Manager at General Physics Corporation, working in its Defense and Coal-Fired Power Plant Divisions. He started up and served as Managing Director of the company’s Singapore subsidiary until leaving the company to assume the duties of Vice President, International Programs with S3 Technologies Corporation (later GSA Systems).

In 1996, Mr. Scheiwe left S3 and purchased a printing business in Westminster which he operated until 2003. He then worked until 2016 for Fossil Consulting Services in Columbia until his retirement in 2016, working in the fields of fossil power plant and waste treatment plant operations and maintenance.

He married Anita M. Batzer (Sybert) in 1981. Together they raised three surviving stepchildren, Josh (Margie) Sybert, John Sybert, and Erin (Darin) Segal. Also surviving are five grandchildren: Joey Sybert, Tom Sybert, Jared Segal, Emily Segal and Mandi Segal, all of Columbia. Mr. Scheiwe is also survived by a sister, Virginia Hunt of Cherry Valley, Illinois, and a brother Kenneth Scheiwe, Sr., of Wilmette, Illinois.
