Dennis Miller Obituary

Dennis Robert Miller, 71, of Catonsville, Maryland, passed away on July 16, 2024, after a courageous and long battle with pain and depression.

Dennis was born on September 25, 1952, to Arthur and Margaret Miller in Baltimore. Growing up in Ellicott City, Dennis had an idyllic postwar suburban childhood, which was unfortunately marred by the early death of his mother in 1959. As a result, young Dennis relied on his father, grandmother, and elder sister Martina to raise him after his mother’s passing.

After graduating from Howard High School in 1971, Dennis went on to work as a master electrician. The following year, he met his wife, Margo Garcia, at a concert, and they married in 1973. After settling in nearby Catonsville, they had two children, Stephen in 1982 and Drew in 1983.

Dennis found employment at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Lab (JHU-APL) in Scaggsville, Maryland, where he helped to simulate the extreme conditions of outer space on a multitude of satellites and spacecraft operated by NASA. Additionally, his invaluable work on weapons and communications systems supported the United States Navy, the United States Marine Corps, and the Missile Defense Agency. He retired after 40 years of work.

A loving husband, father, and grandfather, Dennis loved nothing more than helping out his family. He also treasured his varied hobbies, which included antique collecting, bicycling, mechanics, model railroading, science fiction, local and military history, radios and stereos, classic rock, motion pictures, gardening, and genealogy.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Margo, his eldest son, Stephen Miller, daughter-in-law Meng Sun, his younger son, Drew Miller, and daughter-in-law Nora Simmons. Dennis is also survived by two grandchildren, Madeleine Miller and Karl Miller.
