Deverie Anne DuVal Jensen of Ellicott City, MD, a loving wife, and devoted mother, daughter, and sister, passed away peacefully July 10, 2024 surrounded by loved family members, at Johns Hopkins Howard County Medical Center.
Born July 12, 1973 in Denville, New Jersey, Deverie was the daughter of Robert and Carolyn DuVal of Charlottesville, VA.
Deverie was the beloved wife of Eric Peter Jensen for nineteen years and devoted mother to her children Ryan Eric and Lauren Caroline.
In 1991, Deverie graduated from Lenape Valley High School in Stanhope, N.J., and then attended the University of Virginia, graduating in 1996 with the dual degrees of Bachelor of Arts and Master of Teaching. Deverie taught elementary school in the Montgomery County Schools, MD. for 28 years, most recently at Summit Hall Elementary teaching third grade ESOL (English as a Second Language).
Deverie’s passion for her family and involvement and support in her children’s school and athletic activities was always her priority. When challenged with declining health, Deverie and Eric worked together maintaining an involved and supportive family life. A loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, and aunt, her capacity for love and support will be forever missed.
Deverie was a steadfast friend, always maintaining strong bonds with former high school and university friends, her neighborhood support group, fellow teachers, and the many friends from her children’s school and athletic activities. Deverie never lost a friend, but continually added more people who loved her.
Deverie is survived by her husband Eric Peter Jensen; two children, Ryan Eric Jensen and Lauren Caroline Jensen; her parents Carolyn and Robert DuVal; her brother Jeffrey Scott DuVal of Falls Church, VA. and his wife Lindsay DuVal and children Mason and Parker DuVal; sister-in-law Laura Jansen and husband Charles Jansen of York, PA.; and brother-in-law Michael Jensen of New Mexico. Deverie’s beloved cat Oliver will miss her presence and tender touch.
A private family funeral will be held, followed by a Celebration of Life in August for all who loved Deverie to celebrate her life.
We created a memorial fund in memory of Deverie Jensen to honor her life and support the causes that she cared about such as research for triple negative breast cancer, education and a local animal shelter.
