Diane Lynn Murphy (née Neubauer), 78, Caregiver, Sprinkler of Confetti and Kindness, Orioles Fan, Earth Angel
Diane Lynn Murphy (née Neubauer), beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on May 14, 2025, after 78 years of spreading love, kindness, and a little bit of confetti in every Hallmark card she sent.
Diane was born August 28, 1946, in Baltimore to Philadelphians Laura Rider and Francis Neubauer. She graduated from Mount De Sales Academy and remained a proud and active alumna for over 60 years.
Although she lived briefly in upstate New York and Marshfield, Massachusetts, family, friends, and the smell of Old Bay on steamed crabs beckoned Diane back to Maryland, where she resided until her death.
Diane adored butterflies and was, in fact, quite a social one herself. She never met a stranger—only future friends. She was an avid sports fan who loved to watch college basketball and cheer on her hometown Orioles. She collected angels, and for many, she was one on Earth. A faithful and patient soul, Diane loved God and her family fiercely, and above all. Her greatest gift was her passion for caring for others.
She is survived by her incredibly lucky children Laura Kellie Sobocinski, Tina Murphy, and Dan Murphy, her much-loved son and daughter in law Tom Sobocinski and Grace Robinson Murphy, her “six miracles” (AKA grandchildren) Owen Francis Sobocinski, Aidan Christopher Sobocinski, Leah Diane Mitchell, Hannah Page Mitchell, Patrick Francis Murphy, and Virginia Christian Murphy, as well as her older brother Frank and her life-long best friend Kristine Callahan.
A memorial mass will be held on June 5, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Elkridge, Maryland. In lieu of flowers, please send any donations in Diane’s memory to the American Cancer Society, the Alzheimer’s Association, or a charity of your choice.
