Dirk Hoogenboom, age 63, a loving husband and father of two children, passed away peacefully in the afternoon of April 21, 2021, after coping with Type 1 diabetes complications.
Dirk was born in Iowa City, IA to the late Bernard Hoogenboom and Louise Brown Hoogenboom on August 13, 1957, and raised in St. Peter, MN. He received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Mankato State University, MN in 1980. His career blossomed in the Quality Assurance field, first in the laboratory then in pharmaceutical and medical device companies. In 1993, Dirk married Tomoko Hara and they raised their children in Plymouth, MN. In 2015, He moved to Ellicott City to be together with his family and established an independent auditing service company.
Outside of his career, Dirk enjoyed long bike rides, reading mystery thriller books, and traveling to Japan as well as other places around the world with his family. He also enjoyed cooking meals on the outdoor grill on sunny and snowy days. He was a devoted Deadhead and collected many of their live performance CDs.
Dirk was preceded in death by his father, Bernard Hoogenboom. Dirk is survived by his wife Tomoko, two children, Sarah and Will, his mother Louise, two brothers, Peter and Jon, his aunt Sally, his uncle Tom, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Service and celebration of life will be held early June in Saint Peter, Minnesota with family.
