Doris Burns Obituary

Doris Kathryn Burns (Lippold) of Ellicott City, MD, passed on September 25, 2020.  She was born February 15, 1925, to Charles and Mary Lippold.

She graduated from Mary Washington College with a BA in education and earned her MA in education from the University of Maryland.

On June 5, 1948, Doris and Francis (Fran) Burns were married in Washington, DC.  They resided in Silver Spring, MD, where they remained and raised their family.  Doris and Fran enjoyed a summer home in Fenwick Island, DE, on the Eastern shore for a number of years.

Eventually retiring in Clearwater, FL, Doris enjoyed golf, bridge, traveling, dancing, reading, and was an active participate in numerous activities.  Central to her life she was a devoted lifelong member in the Catholic Church.

Doris is survived by sons, John F. (Susan) of Columbia, MD, and David W. (Linda Munnelly) of Laurel, MD; daughter Christine M. (Charles) Dickherber, St. Peters, MO; six grandchildren, Ronald (Maria) Steele, Jason Burns, Jonathan (Jacqueline) Burns, Jennifer Burns, Francesca (Jeffrey) Gilbert, Alyson (Adam) Cucitrone; great granddaughter Bethany Burns and step great grandson Marcos Alberto, Jr.  Proceeded in death by husband Francis J. Burns and grandson Michael Steele.

Having touched so many, Doris will be deeply missed by her beloved family, dear friends, and all who knew her.  The memory of her love, grace, and kind spirit will be forever in our thoughts and hearts.

We extend our gratitude to the caring staff at Encore at Turf Valley for all their devoted care.

A memorial mass and graveside service will be held at a later date in Clearwater, FL.
