Elisabeth O'Connor Obituary

Elisabeth Lotte O’Connor, 94, of Elkridge, MD, passed away unexpectedly on January 21, 2024.

Elisabeth was born on April 11, 1929, in Vlotho, Germany. She spent her early years growing up in Germany. After the war, she first moved to England to work as an Au Pair for an English Officer, and later she set sail for America.

In her first job in America, she served as the governess for Dr. Stanley Sarnoff, the head of the National Heart Lung Blood Institute, in Bethesda, Maryland.

She met her future husband, Robert Francis O’Connor, at a Friday night Catholic Church dance. They wed on December 29, 1956, going on to have three children, Christopher, Carol, and Craig.

She started out as a stay-at-home mother but began working outside the home in the banking industry in the 1970s. After 20 years, she retired as an Assistant Manager from Citibank.

Elisabeth spent her free time traveling with friends and family. She was an avid bowler, played canasta, and enjoyed attending musicals and the opera. She was a former president of the Maryland Opera Society and supporter of the Kennedy Center Opera House. She was a lifelong fan of the Redskins, where she was able to attend home games with family and friends. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grand children and friends.

Elisabeth is survived by her son Christopher M. O’Connor (Sue), daughter Carol O. Lloyd (John) and son Craig S. O’Connor (Colleen); grandchildren Ryan O’Connor (Eve), Brenna Mahoney (Alex), John R. Lloyd (Star), Megan Bahari (Yiannis), Erin Hennings (Kevin), Danielle Tolson (Joe), Sean O’Connor, Kyle O’Connor, Olivia O’Connor (Will), Philip O'Connor, Tessa O’Connor, Samuel O’Connor; her brother Rolf (Erika), her sister Waltraid (Willi).
