Frances Kathleen Wissig, affectionately known as Kathleen, peacefully passed away on March 29, 2025, in Ellicott City, Maryland, due to complications of leukemia. Born on April 26, 1937, in the quaint town of Ophelia, Virginia, Kathleen's journey of 87 years was marked by an unwavering dedication to her family, a steadfast work ethic, and a generous spirit that touched many lives.
Kathleen's early years in Ophelia laid the foundation for a life characterized by hard work and determination. After graduating from secretarial school, she embarked on a career as a secretary for the FBI, demonstrating her commitment to serving her country. Kathleen's entrepreneurial spirit later led her to become a successful business owner, showcasing her versatility and business acumen.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Kathleen was first and foremost a loving mother. She was the cherished wife of the late Frank B. Wissig, and together they raised a beautiful family. Kathleen's legacy includes her daughters, Roberta Lee Aldrich (late Paul), Kathleen Diane Rusnak (Joseph), Patricia Gail Coughlin (James), Peggy Neale Friesen (Douglas), and Lisa Elaine Masters. She was the adored grandmother of 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, who will remember her for her warmth and the wisdom she imparted. Kathleen's love extended to her brother John Rogers, as well as to the many nieces and nephews who were fortunate enough to know her.
Kathleen's life was one of active engagement and community involvement. As an avid player of bridge and ching ching, she found joy and camaraderie. Her visits to "down home" were cherished times that kept her connected to her roots and the simpler pleasures of life. Kathleen's dedication to volunteering and helping those in need was a testament to her compassionate nature. An active member of masonry and the Shriners organizations, she exemplified the principles of brotherhood, charity, and truth that are central to these groups.
In her many roles, Kathleen was a beacon of love and support. Her home was a hub of hospitality, where laughter filled the rooms and memories were made. She guided her children and grandchildren with the same strength and grace that she applied to every aspect of her life. Kathleen's love and influence will forever remain a cherished part of her family and all who knew her.
Kathleen's passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who loved her, yet her spirit lives on through the countless lives she enriched. Her unwavering commitment to her family, her tireless work ethic, and her boundless generosity have left an indelible mark on the world. As we bid farewell to Kathleen, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of purpose, love, and cherished moments.
Her story is one of resilience, love, and legacy, a narrative that will be recounted for generations. Kathleen's family takes solace in the knowledge that she is now at peace, reunited with her beloved husband and those who predeceased her. Her first words to Frank would be "Hi Darling". Her journey on this earth may have concluded, but the impact of her life's work, her unwavering love, and her generous spirit will resonate endlessly. In honor of Kathleen's remarkable life, her family will gather for a ceremony to share memories, offer tributes, and bid a loving farewell to a remarkable woman whose life was a testament to the values she held dear. Kathleen's memory will be cherished, her lessons will continue to guide, and her love will always be a beacon for her family and friends.
