George Funk Obituary

George Charles Funk, Husband of Kathryn Jean Funk, died peacefully at home on Friday, August 27, 2021. He was the son of Charles William and Elva Bamford Funk of Boston, MA., now deceased. George graduated from college in Wichita, KS in 1964. He then served in the US Army in the 5th Special Forces Group (Green Beret) in Vietnam. He spoke Vietnamese and worked as a medic and translator. During his time in Vietnam, he earned a Bronze Star and Purple Heart for his service. A long time resident of Ellicott City, George was employed as a Physician’s Assistant, Financial Planner, and worked with Orthopedics. He is survived by his children; Leith K. Erickson, Jocelyn K. Batlas, Melissa K. Cross (Raymond) and Christopher G. Funk (Heather); Grandchildren Lucas, Samuel, Nathaniel, Henry and Charlie; sister Elizabeth Messer (Paul); nieces Kimberly and Holly.  His is also survived by his beloved dog, Harry and numerous friends. In lieu of flowers, Donations can be made in George’s memory to the Wounded Warrior Project.
