George Hinson Obituary

George Edward Hinson, Sr., affectionately known as “Poppy” and “Pop-Pop”, was born on January 11, 1939, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Ethel Washington and Richard Hinson.

We bid farewell to a cherished soul whose warmth touched the hearts of all fortunate enough to know him. George passed away peacefully on January 27, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, compassion, and joy.

He was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. George attended school in Philadelphia, PA and after graduating from high school, he received a multitude of professional vocational training throughout his career. George dedicated an impressive 46 years of his life in service at the United States Post Office and held an array of positions. He retired as Supervisor of Maintenance Operations. During his tenure at the post office and among his many accomplishments, George held a patent for enhancing a flat sorter machine.

George enjoyed gardening, building, and renovating and while renovating many projects, he fostered a special bond with his grandson BJ. His visionary insight led to his ability to transform any space into an architectural design that was fully functional and aesthetically pleasing. George brought laughter to many moments, creating beautiful memories that will forever be etched in the hearts of those who had the privilege of sharing his journey.

George's infectious smile and gentle spirit will be dearly missed, but the love and wisdom he imparted will continue to inspire us all.

He was precedetd in death by his siblings: Edith, Richard, Ralph, John, Robert, Catherine, and Lena. George leaves to cherish two brothers: Howard and Lawrence and one sister, Eleanor. His three sons: Michael, Nigel, and George Jr., and two daughters: Valerie and Sheria. Eight grandchildren: Tennielle, Aaron, Bruce, Rachel, Ramon, Sya, Chuck, and George III. Five great-grandchildren: Kamryn, Jailynn, Khyler, Kai, Kenrich, and a host of other family and friends. May his soul rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love that he so generously shared during his time with us.
