George Walgrove, Jr. Obituary

On Friday, January 12, 2024, George Robert Walgrove, Jr. died at his home at Millers Grant in Ellicott City, Maryland. Born on 12/4/1932, George married Norma Jean Collister on 12/18/1954.

He is survived by his wife Norma Collister Walgrove and his three children, George Robert Walgrove 111 (Kathy Durfee), Deborah Ann Bassett (Ross Knox Bassett) and Jane Marie Walgrove Martin.

George is the cherished grandfather of Jay Walgrove (Rochester, NY), Barbara Walgrove (Rochester, NY), David Walgrove (Rochester, NY), Michael Walgrove (Rochester, NY), Anna Bassett (Columbus, OH), Abram Martin (Lynchburg, VA), Sarah Martin Burns (Egg Harbor, NJ), Rebekah Martin Roby (Lynchburg, VA). George is also the cherished great-grandfather of Genesis and Annalise Martin and Charolette and Reagan Burns.

George was pre-deceased by his brother, Richard E. Walgrove of Boca Raton, FL.

George majored in Animal Husbandry and graduated from Rutgers University. He was Elder Emeritus of Columbia Presbyterian Church in Columbia, MD, retired from Maryland and Virginia Milk Producers Associations located in Herndon, VA as General Manager, retired United States Marine Corps. Captain, board member of Camp Hemlock, Regional Christian Service Brigade, a licensed commercial pilot, avid hiker of the Appalachian Trail, and a frequent climber of Mt. Katahdin in Baxter State Park, ME.

A memorial service will be held on January 28, 2024 at 1:30pm at Columbia Presbyterian Church, 10001 Route 108, Columbia, MD.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Georges’ memory to Wycliffe Bible Translators of Orlando, FL.
