Gloria Fastige at the age of 93 passed away on July 15, 2020. She was born on October 11, 1926 to Ralph Schmidt and Nellie (Joseph) Schmidt. She grew up on a farm in New Jersey and
during the war she became an airplane spotter. Gloria attended and graduated from Beaver College, renamed Arcadia University, with a Bachelor’s Degree in French and Spanish. She
received her Master’s Degree in Spanish from Middlebury College. Gloria taught English and Spanish In New Jersey. During this time, she met her husband Carmen. Gloria moved to
Maryland and taught elementary school in Anne Arundel and Howard Counties. She retired from Howard County Public Schools. She was a member of Harundale Presbyterian Church. She
enjoyed square dancing, round dancing, art, reading and cooking. She also enjoyed being with children and became a surrogate grandmother to many. She is survived by her sister, Betsy
Hollenack and her daughters, Fay Ferguson and Nellie Fastige. She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary D. Schnell and her husband Carmen Fastige.
