Gregory Gerard Witschey, 65, of Maryland, passed away unexpectedly on April 24, 2026. Born on January 7, 1961, in Ohio, Greg was a man whose warmth, brilliance, and generosity touched everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Greg graduated from the University of Akron with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and went on to build a remarkable career in service to his country and community. He spent 33 years at the National Security Agency, starting as a software and operating systems developer before discovering his true passion in leadership. He rose through the management chain to become a Senior Executive, earning the prestigious Presidential Rank Meritorious Executive Award in 2010 along with numerous professional certifications. After retiring from the NSA, Greg served as Executive Director at AT&T from 2017 to 2021, where he recruited and mentored new college hires and provided consultation across the federal government solution space. Most recently, he held the role of Senior Federal Program Delivery Director at HPE, where he became responsible for all Federal support in North America.
But ask anyone who worked alongside Greg, and they would tell you he was simply the best boss and coworker they ever had. Caring, compassionate, driven, and kind-hearted, he always put others before himself. When he cared about you, he made absolutely sure you knew it. His words of wisdom stayed with people long after the conversation ended.
On September 28, 1985, Greg married the love of his life, Lori Witschey (Baldwin), and together they built a family he loved talking endlessly about -including the good, the not so good and the funny. He was an avid comic book collector who loved sharing his collection with his son Scott and son-in-law Brad. A loyal Ohio sports fan through and through, he cheered for the Indians/Guardians, Browns, and Cavaliers no matter the record. He was also a huge fan of Notre Dame and sang the fight song as a lullaby to both his children and his grandchildren. He was a patient coach, especially with all of his kids, and he made sure everyone knew the biggest and most important goal- to have fun. He loved family trips to the Outer Banks, classic rock with a strong beat, and singing along to just about anything. He had two notes, loud and louder. He and his daughter Samantha had two anthems that she will forever sing in honor of her Dad. He was a very patriotic man and he shared this passion with his eldest son Steven, who currently is working at NSA. Greg was a faithful member of the Church of the Resurrection and a generous supporter of Special Olympics and Mid Atlantic German Shepherd Rescue.
One of his greatest joys was becoming a grandfather in 2023 and 2024. Known lovingly as PaPa, Grandpa and Grandfazzah, he was, quite simply, the absolute best at it.
Greg is survived by his beloved wife, Lori Witschey; his son Steven Witschey; his daughter Samantha Noel; his son Scott Witschey; as well as his daughter in laws Allison and Caroline Witschey, son in law Brad Noel, granddaughters Madison and Emma and two MAGSR dogs Ariel and Cooper.
A legend who always led with his heart, Greg will live on forever in our minds and in our hearts. May he rest in peace and watch over us, always.
The burial will be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers and trees, donations may be made in Greg's memory to Special Olympics and Mid Atlantic German Shepherd Rescue.
