Obituary

Gwynetta Elizabeth Lucas Hailey departed this earth on Wednesday, February 05, 2020.  She was the daughter of Allan E. Lucas, Sr. and the late Gladys M. Whitted.  She was born on October 22, 1968, in Washington, DC.  Gwyn graduated from Paint Branch High School in Montgomery County, Maryland.  After graduation she attended college for a short period of time and later acquired a secretarial position at the Princeton Electric Company.  After working there for several years, she was hired by the National Institute of Health (NIH) where she honed her skills as an Administrative Specialist. 

Her experience there inspired her to establish her own company, GJK & Associates.  She excelled as an entrepreneur by providing staffing and administrative support services for doctors at NIH.  She was a successful businesswoman who obtained contracts with NIH for nearly 20 years. 

She was married to Kenneth R. Hailey, Sr., who preceded her in death.  They had two sons, Jordan L. Hailey, Sr. of Gaithersburg, MD and Kenneth R. Hailey, Jr. of Los Angeles, CA.  For a time, she was a member of Central Union Baptist Church where she sang in the choir.  In 2010, Gwyn was diagnosed with a rare form of Parkinson’ Disease.  For nearly 10 years, she bravely battled this illness until her passing.  She was preceded in death by her mother and two brothers, Milan H. Lucas and Cedric L. Lucas.   

Gwyn leaves to mourn her passing her two sons; her father, Allan E. Lucas, Sr. of Adelphi, MD; brothers, Allan E. Lucas, Jr. (Sharon) of Washington, DC, Joseph G. Lucas, Sr. (Lois) of Rolesville, NC;  two grandsons, Jordan L. Hailey Jr. and Josiah K. Hailey; one Aunt, Delores Cooke of Bronx, NY; Step-Father Charles Atkinson, New Haven, CT; Step-Sisters, Cheryl Atkinson of Hamden, CT; Lisa Jones, New Haven, CT; and Patricia Reynolds, New Haven, CT; Step-Brothers Gregory Atkinson, Pittsburgh, PA; and Johnny Houston, (Blonca) of Largo MD., as well as a host of other relatives and  friends.
