In Loving Memory of
Helen Hembadoon Hilda Degahson
November 9, 1973 – March 23, 2026
Helen Hembadoon Hilda Degahson, 52, of Ellicott City, Maryland, passed away on March 23, 2026, following a lengthy and courageous battle with multiple myeloma. Throughout her illness, she maintained the same grace and fortitude that defined her life, facing every challenge with a "great spirit" that inspired all who knew her.
Born on November 9, 1973, Helen was a woman of remarkable strength and boundless compassion. She dedicated her professional life to the service of the ill and vulnerable, working as a nurse. In the hallways of the hospitals where she served, Helen was known for her unwavering dedication and kindness. She was not only a healer of bodies but a sustainer of spirits, providing comfort to those in their most difficult moments.
To her family, Helen was a pillar of resilience. Her life was a testament to the power of care—both in the clinical setting and at home. Her children were her greatest pride, and she instilled in them the values of hard work, kindness, and perseverance.
She is survived by her three beloved children, Othniel Jr., Michael, and Cynthia, who were the light of her life. She is also survived by her former husband and the father of her children, Othniel Degahson Sr., as well as a community of friends, colleagues, and extended family members who will forever cherish her memory.
Helen’s life was a beautiful reflection of service and sacrifice. Though her battle with cancer was long, her spirit was never defeated, and her legacy of healing will continue through the many lives she touched.
In honor of Helen's life-long commitment to nursing and her brave fight, we request memorial donations be made to the International Myeloma Foundation.
