Helen Sciarretti Obituary

Helen Delores Sciarretti, fondly known as Aunt Bee, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2025, at the age of 90 in Westminster, Maryland. Born on December 26, 1934, in Steubenville, Ohio, to the late Frank Anthony Prolago Sr. and Mary Nell (Romano) Prolago, Helen was a beacon of joy to all who knew her.

Helen's early years in Ohio were filled with love and laughter, surrounded by her parents and siblings. She was the cherished sister of the late Louis, Frank Jr., Paul, William, Raymond, and Robert Prolago, and the late Isabelle Bengier, Jeanette Bracciale, Madalyn Frascketti, Virginia Smogonovich, and Anna Stirpe. Helen then married her beloved husband, the late Mario Sciarretti. In 1985, Helen moved to Maryland to be with family. Remaining to cherish Helen's memory are her sister Mary Reeves and many nieces and nephews including The Bracciale Family of Woodstock, Maryland (Vince, Terri, Lori, Stephanie, Niki, Natalie, Amy, their spouses and children).

Throughout her life, Helen's work ethic and vivacious personality shone brightly. She made a lasting impression as a Department Manager at Hart's Family Center, a regional department store in Ohio. Later, her passion for hospitality and her knack for organization led her to become the Director of Uniforms at The Maryland Thoroughbred Horse Race Tracks at Pimlico and Laurel. There, she delighted in Maryland Jockey Club's special events and welcomed horsemen from across the globe to the excitement of Maryland racing.

Helen was an avid tennis and softball player and a champion bowler, and she cherished the time spent playing cards with her loved ones and friends. An excellent cook, Helen took pride in preparing and sharing traditional Italian family recipes that brought everyone together around the table. Her culinary skills were a true expression of her love throughout the community. Helen loved attending Big Red football games in Steubenville, Baltimore Orioles and Cleveland Indians baseball games, and perhaps most of all - the many sports games of her nieces and nephews.

Her love for sunshine was only surpassed by her Catholic Faith and the love she had for her family. Aunt Bee's radiant smile and infectious laughter will be fondly remembered and sorely missed by her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews. Each one of them carries cherished memories of Aunt Bee's generosity, humor, and the warmth of her presence. She truly was "The Best".

The Bracciale Family would like to thank Helen’s loving care team and nurses at Atlee Hill Nursing Care, whom our Aunt Bee considered family. We are also grateful to the incredible care group at The Dove House Hospice Center who provided our family and Aunt Bee with grace and love.

A Catholic Mass will be held in Helen's honor on Thursday, January 30 at 11am at St. Alphonsus Rodriguez Catholic Church. Her family invites all to attend. Memorial Donations in Helen's honor may be donated to the Dove House Inpatient Hospice Center in Westminster, Maryland.
