Henrietta Braid, 96, of Ellicott City, passed away February 5, 2021, with her daughters at her bedside. She was born to the late Henry and Eda Heffken on August 18, 1924, in Millfield (Athens Co.), Ohio. In 1946, Henrietta married Floyd Braid who predeceased her in 1989. Henrietta lived in Ohio most of her life before relocating to Ellicott City in 2006.
Henrietta’s love for family gatherings and travel adventures took her to every corner of the United States and Europe/Africa. She was fun-loving and ready for any outing at a moment’s notice. Whether a quiet visit or a grand celebration, being with her family and friends was what mattered most to her. Henrietta’s love and pride for her family will always be felt in the special memories that are shared and savored by each. She spread her strong, abiding faith throughout her family which is now a shared source of comfort and strength in this time of loss.
Henrietta’s close circle of friends in Ohio and later in Ellicott City shared her passion for volunteering, singing, golfing, and afternoons of bridge and mah-jongg. She met many dear friends at The Ellicott City Senior Center and First Presbyterian Church of Howard County. These cherished friends wrote notes, phoned and brought meals, treats and flowers as she became homebound. Everyone adored Henrietta’s quick wit, sometimes groan-worthy sense of humor and her “tongue-in-cheek” jests.
Henrietta is survived by her two daughters: Kathy (Gareth) Dence, of Ellicott City; and Janis (David) Teal, of West Chester, PA. She is also survived by three granddaughters, four great-grandchildren, five nieces, three nephews and many great-nieces and nephews. Her sisters, Betty and Carolyn, predeceased her.
