Ivan Torgersen Tewell

Ivan Torgersen Tewell, age 37, of Columbia, MD, passed away on May 5, 2025.

Born on September 19, 1987, in Columbia, MD, he was the son of Daryl Ivan Tewell II and Karen Torgersen Tewell. He graduated from Hammond High School in 2005 and went on to attend the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, where he double-majored in Computer Science and Mathematics. After graduating in 2009, Ivan worked as a software engineer for Raytheon Solipsys, and more recently Huntington Ingalls Industries.

Ivan will be remembered for his intelligence, sense of humor, and love of pets.

He is survived by his sister, Nancy Shultz (née Tewell), brother-in-law Michael Shultz, grandmother Kay Tewell, aunts and uncles Kara (née Tewell) and Mark Earl, Mark Tewell and Quynh-Nhu Vo, Kristi (née Tewell) and Peter Larson, Maxwell Torgersen II and Wayne Blankenship, William Wadsworth, and Grayson Torgersen; cousins Mark Earl Jr., Arianna Larson, Parker Tewell, and Rev. William Wadsworth IV.

Ivan was preceded in death by his grandparents, Col. Maxwell and Nancy Torgersen, Capt. Daryl and Barbara Tewell, aunt Louise G. Wadsworth, and cousin Daniel Earl.

A memorial will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Harry H. Witzke’s Family Funeral Home in Ellicott City, Maryland. Friends and family may gather before the service at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ivan’s memory to the ASPCA.
