Jacqueline Sue Melton

Jacqueline Sue Melton, known lovingly to family and friends as Jackie, passed away on June 8, 2026, in Columbia, Maryland, at the age of 60. She was born on September 19, 1965, in Bitburg, Germany, and lived a life marked by intelligence, devotion, and a deep love for the people and interests that shaped her days. She will be remembered with great affection for her passionate spirit, her analytical mind, and the warmth she brought to those fortunate enough to know her.

Jackie was the cherished daughter of Joann Romeo and the late Allen Keiser and the late Ron Romeo. She is survived by her husband, Lawrence Melton, her daughter, Alexa Melton, her mother, Joann Romeo, her brother, Randy Keiser, and her step-sister Gina O’Brian.  Her family was the center of her life, and she embraced her roles with steadfast love, loyalty, and pride. She especially treasured being a mother, and that role remained one of the greatest joys of her life.

A gifted student, Jackie graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Loyola College in Baltimore. Her academic achievement reflected the discipline, intellect, and determination that defined her throughout her life. She approached learning with curiosity and precision, and those qualities served her well in both her professional and personal pursuits.

Jackie built a distinguished career as a database programmer, first with USF&G, later known as the St. Paul Companies, and later with the Social Security Administration. Her work required focus, logic, and a remarkable ability to solve complex problems, all of which came naturally to her. She was respected by colleagues for her competence, reliability, and thoughtful approach to her work. After years of dedicated service, she retired in April 2025, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism and quiet excellence.

Outside of her career, Jackie found joy in many interests that reflected her curious and thoughtful nature. She was an amateur astronomer who appreciated the wonder of the night sky and the mysteries beyond it. She enjoyed brain teaser computer games that challenged her mind and offered hours of engaging entertainment. Jackie was also an ancient history buff who loved documentaries and docudramas that brought the past to life. She found great pleasure in attending live professional and amateur performances of dramas and musicals, where she could immerse herself in storytelling and the performing arts.

Those who knew Jackie will remember her as a woman of substance, insight, and heart. She was passionate in the things she loved, intelligent in her thinking, and analytical in the way she understood the world. Her presence was steady and meaningful, and her love for her family was evident in all she did. She lived with purpose and cared deeply for the people and experiences that enriched her life.

Jackie’s memory will live on in the hearts of her husband, daughter, mother, brother, extended family, and all who were touched by her kindness and strength. Her life was a testament to dedication, intellect, and love. Though she is no longer physically present, the example she set and the love she gave will remain a lasting comfort to those who mourn her and celebrate her life.
